The long awaited tax exempted overtime for workers attached to the Bauxite Company of Guyana Incorporated (BCGI) will soon be realised, following intervention by the Social Protection Ministry’s Labour Department.Social Protection Minister Volda Lawrence made the announcement at a meeting with Junior Minister Keith Scott, Chief Labour Office Charles Ogle and BCGI officials on Thursday at the Ministry’s Brickdam office. The meeting was a response to concerns raised by stakeholders when both Ministers Lawrence and Scott visited the Bauxite Company to inspect the working conditions under which the workers were exposed.Upon returning to Georgetown, Minister Lawrence met with Finance Minister Winston Jordan to discuss the tax exempted overtime. “I did meet with the Minister of Finance… the workers will be given the tax exemption on overtime,” she said during the meeting.According to an article from the Government Information Agency (GINA), the workers noted that their greatest concern was not being afforded the opportunity to have a union of their choice. But BCGI Senior Safety Officer Linden Prince remarked that management was never approached by employees for Union representation, nonetheless, after discussions, the company committed to provide workers the opportunity to have a union of their choice.Other concerns raised over the past several years included workers being compelled to complete tasks without the company having the necessary equipment to do the job; staff working for in excess of five years and receiving no raise in pay; staff reporting sick, receiving pay eight hours for a three-day period but upon resumption, money is deducted from their salary; poor ventilation in office areas; and no occupational safety and health representatives or committee, among several other issues. In response to the issues raised, BCGI’s management said the Company has no knowledge of workers being compelled to complete tasks without the company having the necessary equipment to do the job.The company’s management said wages and salary increases are provided annually to all regular employees and contractors; however the Social Protection team advised that the company correct any actions that are detrimental to the occupational health and safety of the workers. Moreover, Minister Lawrence emphasised the need for the company to work together with the Government to ensure that both the Company and employees are protected under Guyana’s law.

I know very well that our club is a symbol of Serbia, unlike Partizan Belgrade, who represent Yugoslavia more.“I do not know if he will be willing to play in Marakana [the nickname of Red Star’s Rajko Mitic Stadium] under these conditions, so I doubt he’ll come. If he comes, he’ll be smaller than a poppy seed.”Virgil van Dijk praises Roberto Firmino after Liverpool’s win Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Virgil van Dijk hailed team-mate Roberto Firmino after coming off the bench to inspire Liverpool to a 3-1 comeback win against Newcastle United. But Terzic was sure to ease Liverpool’s worries with respect to security, adamant they will do their duty and protect Shaqiri.“We have to do everything we can to make Shaqiri feel like he can play football,” he added. “It is our duty to protect him. Let’s be good hosts.”While Xhaka apologised for his celebration this week, Shaqiri undermined the idea when asked if he would make amends.“Sure, I apologise if people felt attacked in Switzerland,” he said.“Somewhere, I don’t know, maybe in the mountains, where someone watched the game and it bothered him, I would certainly apologise.”

Dan Cohen AUTHOR A state plan to deliver water from the Snake River to Mountain Home Air Force Base would ensure the installation in southwestern Idaho has a sustainable water supply in the event the aquifer it currently relies on dries up.Groundwater supplies in the Mountain Home area already are running low.“The risk that we face is that if the base doesn’t have a reliable water supply into the future, then it may risk the viability of retaining the base in the state of Idaho,” said Cynthia Bridge Clark, a water manager with the Idaho Department of Water Resources.Officials from the Idaho Department of Water Resources this week described the pipeline project, which is estimated to cost between $20 million and $30 million and could be in place in 2021, reported KBOI.In addition to the pipeline, which would range from 10 to 15 miles, the state would build a pump station and a water treatment facility to provide water for domestic, municipal, commercial and industrial uses. The state previously acquired the water rights to the surface water in CJ Strike Reservoir, which is located on the Snake River. The Air Force would pay the state back through a water purchase agreement, according to the story. State water managers next will begin the project’s design stage, which will take several years.
