Cutrone I give everything to win for Milan

first_imgPatrick Cutrone has affirmed his stunning volley that helped in AC Milan’s 2-1 win over Parma stems from the desire to win for the club.Parma opened the scoring via Roberto Inglese from a corner, but Milan restored parity within 15 minutes thanks to Cutrone’s volley from a tight angle then followed by Franck Kessie penalty to seal the win.“It’s an important victory and a great success. It’s not easy to go behind and fight back for the win, especially as Parma tried to clam up, but we did really well,” the striker told Football Italia.Cristiano Ronaldo, JuventusSerie A Betting: Match-day 3 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Considering there is a number of perfect starts so early in the Serie A season, as well as a few surprisingly not-so perfect ones….“My goal came from my desire to win. I give everything to get the victory for Milan. I have always had a good rapport with the Coach and we hope to continue like this.”Considering he keeps scoring so regularly in Serie A and the Europa League, is Cutrone concerned at the possible January arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic?“If Ibrahimovic comes, then good, but either way I focus on my own progress.”last_img read more

first_img 3 Chevrolet CorvetteMoving up from the 10th-place slot last year is the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette. While we’ve all been ogling the new mid-engine Corvette, it’s easy to forget what a performance bargain the current-generation ‘Vette is. From the base trim to the Grand Sport to the bonkers ZR1, the Corvette is an American icon.My preference is for the Grand Sport, which strikes a perfect balance between everyday drivability and canyon-carving performance. The 6.2-liter V8 puts out 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. You can get it with a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, but the kicker is the borrowed chassis and aero parts from the beefier Z06. Like I said, perfect balance. The Corvette is made in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Honda RidgelineAgain keeping the status quo, the Honda Ridgeline maintains third place on the American Made Index. This crossover-that-looks-like-a-truck provides a better ride than a traditional pickup and gets an awesome lockable trunk right in the floor of the bed. And it doesn’t do the truck stuff too badly, either, as it’s able to carry 1,860 pounds of payload and tow 3,500 pounds. The Ridgeline is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 good for 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. That is channeled through a six-speed automatic transmission with available all-wheel drive. It’s built in Lincoln, Alabama. 10 Photos More From Roadshow 52 Photos Share your voice Acura RDXThe third-generation Acura RDX squeaks into the top ten list with larger proportions, plenty of interior space and better handling than its predecessor. Forward collision warning with collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control that works even in low-speed traffic, lane-keeping steering assist and road departure mitigation are all standard across the board. Like its MDX counterpart, the RDX is available with the A-Spec styling package. The RDX sports a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine. Output is stated at 273 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, and it’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Honda’s largest crossover offers up nearly 84 cubic feet of cargo space. Honda’s 3.5-liter V6 engine shows up again, making a serviceable 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Honda Acura,Enlarge ImageIt’s all in a day’s work for the Jeep Cherokee, the most American-made car in 2019. Jeep With high trade tensions looming and increasing talk of tariffs, more and more consumers are looking to buy American. Cars.com has released its annual American Made Index, showcasing companies that use the most American-sourced parts and labor in their vehicles. The results may surprise you.Cars.com analyzed more than 100 US-built vehicles for five key data points: manufacturing location, parts sourcing, US employment, engine sourcing and transmission sourcing. You might think something like the Ford F-150 would top the list, but it drops from its No. 5 spot for 2018 and out of the top 10 completely. Even the first-place holder, the Jeep Cherokee, is a pretty global product. It’s a Jeep, sure, but that brand is part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, an Italian-owned business.Cars.com surveyed 1,000 people and found that half are concerned about automotive import tariffs, with 41% saying they are unsure if tariffs would make them more likely to buy American. Either way, we’re big fans of all the vehicles on this list. These days, buying American doesn’t necessarily mean sticking with a US-based automaker. However unlike the Ridgeline, the Passport sends that power through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Having said that, just like the Ridgeline, this is the only powertrain available. The Honda Passport is built in Lincoln, Alabama. Chevrolet ColoradoMaking its debut in the top 10 is the Chevrolet Colorado. Shown here in the tough ZR2 Bison off-road spec, the Chevy Colorado is an excellent truck and one of the two midsize pickups you can get with a diesel engine. Adding to the ZR2’s two-inch lift and front and rear locking differentials, the Bison gets beefier skid plates (trust me, that’s a good thing), steel bumpers and integrated recovery points. Heck, you can even get a snorkel.Base models get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission, but a more popular choice is the 3.6-liter V6 gas engine with 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the 2.8-liter diesel pumps out 186 horsepower and a delicious 369 pound-feet of twist and is mated to a six-speed automatic. Mullen Lowe With a couple of notable exceptions like the NSX and the last RSX, Acura has been living quite solidly at the dull end of the automotive spectrum for the past couple of decades. That started to look like it might change when the brand released the beautiful and aggressive Precision concept back in 2016.Unfortunately, the Precision concept didn’t herald any significant immediate changes, but now the rumor is that Acura is preparing to launch a new concept during this year’s Monterey Car Week that will be nearly production ready and would be a look at a soon-to-come flagship sedan, according to a report by Car & Driver published on Thursday. This new flagship concept would bear some resemblance to the long, low, sleek and suicide door-sporting Precision concept — and in our opinion, that would go a long way toward curing Acura’s lack of excitement. That would be doubly true if it threw the excellent turbo four-cylinder engine from the Civic Type R under the hood, though we wouldn’t hold our breath for that. Also included in Car & Driver’s article were hints that we might even be able to expect the second generation of Acura’s ZDX crossover coupe thing which originally ended production in 2013. Clearly, that car was ahead of its time, as has been proven by the plague of other coupe-overs to hit the market in the last year.Acura execs are allegedly looking at early designs for a new ZDX, and if that goes well, we’d expect to see one in the next few years.Acura representatives declined to comment on future products. 2010 Acura ZDX 71 Photos 2020 Cadillac XT6 first drive: Sometimes ‘more’ is more 49 Photoslast_img read more

Sweden arrests suspected driver of Stockholm attack

first_imgDamage to a store is revealed after the stolen truck, which was driven through a crowd outside a department in Stockholm. Photo: AFPFlags flew at half-mast across Stockholm on Saturday as the city slowly returned to normal a day after a truck attack that killed four people, as police said they had the suspected driver in custody.A stolen beer truck ploughed into a crowd of people at the corner of the bustling Ahlens department store and the Drottninggatan pedestrian street on Friday afternoon, above ground from Stockholm’s central subway station.Fifteen people were injured, nine of whom remained in hospital on Saturday. It was the third terror attack in Europe in two weeks, coming on the heels of assaults in London and St. Petersburg, although there has been no immediate claim of responsibility.Previous attacks using vehicles have occurred in London, Berlin and the southern French city of Nice, all of them claimed by the so-called Islamic State (IS).”Terror hits the heart of the city,” Sweden’s biggest broadsheet Dagens Nyheter headlined its front page above a picture of the truck with its front end smashed into the store.Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said he had strengthened the country’s border controls, as flags flew at half-mast at parliament, the royal palace, the government offices, and City Hall.”Terrorists want us to be afraid, want us to change our behaviour, want us to not live our lives normally, but that is what we’re going to do. So terrorists can never defeat Sweden, never,” Lofven said.City streets were empty early Saturday, slowly filling as the day wore on as things began to return to normal — apart from a heavy police presence, a rare scene in this normally tranquil country.A swelling crowd milled by the security barrier erected around the scene, many placing flowers on the ground or in the security fence.Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria, 39, was one of those laying down a bouquet, wiping tears from her cheek.”I feel an incredible sadness, an emptiness,” she told reporters. But, she said, “society has demonstrated enormous strength and we stand together against this.”Suspected driver in custody Swedish police said a man arrested on “suspicion of a terrorist crime” was probably the truck driver.”We suspect that the man who was arrested is the perpetrator,” Stockholm police spokesman Lars Bystrom told AFP.The man was arrested “on suspicion of a terrorist crime through murder,” Karin Rosander, spokeswoman at the Swedish Prosecution Authority, said. The man was detained on Friday in Marsta, a suburb north of Stockholm. According to several media outlets, he is a 39-year-old of Uzbek origin and an IS supporter.Prosecutors did not disclose his identity, but police said his appearance “matched the description” of a photo they released of a suspect wearing a dark hoodie and military green jacket.Intelligence agency Sapo said meanwhile it was hunting for “possible accomplices or networks that may have been involved in the attack.” ‘Terrifying’ Witnesses described scenes of terror and panic on Friday.”A massive truck starts driving … and mangles everything and just drives over exactly everything,” eyewitness Rikard Gauffin told AFP.”It was so terrible and there were bodies lying everywhere… it was really terrifying,” he added.Passerby Hasan Sidi told Aftonbladet he saw two elderly women lying on the ground. He said people at the scene urged him to help one of the women who was “bleeding to death”.”One of them died… I don’t know if the other one made it,” Sidi said. The truck was towed away in the early hours of Saturday. ‘It was expected’ An attack on Stockholm was just a matter of time, the head of the Centre for Asymmetric Threat Studies at the Swedish National Defence College, Magnus Ranstorp, told AFP.”It was pretty expected, the police and intelligence agency have practised for this several times the past year… We just didn’t know when it was going to happen,” he said.Friday’s attack was the latest in a string of assaults with vehicles in Europe. The deadliest came last year in France on the July 14 Bastille Day national holiday, when a man rammed a truck into a crowd in the Mediterranean resort of Nice, killing 86 people. In December, a man hijacked a truck and slammed into shoppers at a Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people. In London last month, Khalid Masood, a 52-year-old convert to Islam, killed five people when he drove a car at high speed into pedestrians before launching a frenzied knife attack on a policeman guarding parliament. In 2014, IS called for attacks on citizens of Western countries and gave instructions on how they could be carried out without military equipment, using rocks or knives, or by running people over in vehicles.Friday’s attack was the second terror attack in Stockholm. In December 2010, a suicide bomber blew himself up, also on the Drottninggatan pedestrian street, lightly injuring several passersby.last_img read more

Jordan PM resigns after mass protest

first_imgJordanian King Abdullah II (L) and replaced prime minister Hani Al-Mulki attend an official lunch meeting at the Royal Palace in Amman. File Photo: AFPJordan’s King Abdullah replaced his prime minister on Monday in a move to defuse the biggest protests in years over IMF-backed reforms that have hit the poor.Government plans to lift taxes have brought thousands of people onto the streets in the capital Amman and other parts of Jordan since last week, shaking a U.S.-allied Arab country that has remained stable through years of regional turmoil.King Abdullah appointed Omar al-Razzaz, a former World Bank economist, to form the new government after accepting Hani Mulki’s resignation, a ministerial source said. Razzaz was education minister in Mulki’s government. While some celebrated the change of government, the head of the Professional Unions Association said a strike planned for Wednesday would go ahead unless the draft income tax law was withdrawn.Police chief Major General Fadel al-Hamoud said security forces had detained 60 people for breaking the law in protests so far, and 42 security force members had been injured, but protests remained under control.”Rest assured, Jordan is a safe and secure country, and things are under control,” said Major General Hussein Hawatmeh, head of the Gendarmerie security department, appearing along with Hamoud at a news conference.Jordan, which has a peace treaty with Israel, has navigated years of instability at its borders, including wars in Iraq and Syria and conflict in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. But the instability has hit the economy of a country that is poor in resources and hosts close to 700,000 Syrian refugees. Unemployment among Jordanians stands at 18.4 percent, according to Jordan’s department of statistics.Public anger has grown over government policies since a steep general sales tax hike earlier this year and the abolition of bread subsidies, both measures driven by the International Monetary Fund.In a sign the tax hikes could be shelved, the official Petra news agency, citing the speaker of parliament, said lawmakers were on course to ask the king’s permission to hold an exceptional session, with a majority demanding the changes be withdrawn.”For us, our cause is the draft income tax law. The individuals (in government) do not concern us if they change, we want to change the approach of the government,” said Ali al-Abous, head of the Professional Unions Association.Demonstrators who have converged for nightly protests near the Cabinet office have said they would disband only if the government rescinded the tax bill it sent to parliament last month.TIME FOR “MIDDLE GROUND”Razzaz is a Harvard-educated economist who served with the World Bank in both Washington and the region.Officials said he had been an opponent of reforms that hurt the poor. His appointment nevertheless sends a positive message to foreign donors that Jordan will press ahead with reforms, though in a gradual way, they said.”I believe they have time to amend the law, to withdraw the law and make a new one that is more of a middle ground between the public demands and what the government wants,” said Mufleh Aqel, a prominent Jordanian banker. The IMF approved a three-year extended arrangement with Jordan in 2016 to support economic and financial reform to lower public debt and encourage structural reforms.Jordan has backed down on reforms in the past, fearing a social backlash. Until Mulki’s government, the lifting of bread subsidies and tax changes have been pushed back repeatedly.Jordan was rocked by unrest in 2012 when the IMF told the government to lift gasoline prices.Mulki, a business-friendly politician, was appointed in May 2016 and given the responsibility of reviving a sluggish economy and business sentiment. The tax increases had caused his popularity to plummet. The protests widened on Saturday after Mulki refused to scrap a bill increasing personal and corporate taxes, saying it was up to parliament to decide. The government says it needs more funds for public services and argues that the tax changes reduce social disparities by placing a heavier burden on high earners. Opponents say a tough IMF-imposed fiscal consolidation plan has worsened the plight of poorer Jordanians and squeezed the middle class.Jordan’s economy has struggled to grow in the past few years in the face of chronic deficits, as private foreign capital and aid flows have declined.last_img read more

Macron at Subodh Guptas studio

first_imgThe highlight of French President Emmanuel Macron’s India trip was the dinner hosted by renowned artist couple Subodh Gupta and Bharti Kher for him on Sunday evening. Macron and his wife Brigitte drove straight to Gupta’s Gurgaon studio, after their visit to the Taj Mahal at Agra. Co-hosted by the French ambassador, Alexandre Ziegler, the evening was seminal since a head of state mingled with artists, writers and intellectuals, unlike their usual guest-list of industrialists and bankers. There were curator Tasneem Zakaria Mehta, author Vikram Seth, award-winning photographer Dayanita Singh, the genius Jitish Kallat, collector and impresario Kiran Nadar and Khoj Director and Curator Pooja Sood, filmmaker Alankrita Srivastava, fashion designer Manish Arora and photographer Gauri Gill. Macron invited curator Pooja Sood to showcase her work with India ‘s tribals. Galleries with an international name and lineage become his dealers and it is not surprising that his installation at Art Basel Hong Kong 2018 will be Arario Gallery.Gupta’s sprawling studio-workshop is in Gurgaon, he is very much the master of his three-storeyed enterprise. Gupta has designed the avant-garde exposed concrete and glass exterior of the building himself. Inside, it gives way to wood-panelled luxury and statement furniture that blends pragmatism and eloquent elegance. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsiveHis studio is built and spread over three floors. A medium sized room with the neon light alphabets ‘Ma ki Daal’ on the wall and another of his vessel installations on the wall tell you that he is an artist who thinks and brings the past forward to the present. Simplicity and elegance exude the language of India’s greatest installation artist. The table on this floor has a steel tumbler and ‘thali’ sunken into its circular surface. On the ground floor is where all the welding and the construction happens. A small staircase leads on to the larger space and a lift takes you up to the middle floor. Gupta greets you and takes you towards his works that he has just created. On this epic evening, Gupta had laid out a soiree of his many installations for President Macron to savour. From his vessels to light installations to the pots from the Philosopher’s Stone series his studio morphed into an avant-garde gallery for one night. Famous artist Jitish Kallat says: “Emanuel Macron was charismatic, graceful and humble, and the same could be said about Mme. Macron. They had a natural sociability that allowed them to dissolve seamlessly into the gathering, attentively exchanging words with each person they met. During my brief encounter, I conveyed to him how I felt his victory over Marin Le Pen represented a truly optimistic shift away from the kind of aggressive leadership that is becoming ubiquitous across the globe.” Subodh ‘s office and painting studio are spacious and spotless. A high backed chair with purple and lighter shades of upholstery is where he sits and thinks-an antique wooden Ganesha in its residual imperfect state makes you think of his love for antiquity and his brilliance at thinking out of the box. The square table at the centre is packed with books. The studio has the air of a mini-museum. A table with some of his potent vessel series, another with paint tubes and brushes-each corner is evocative. All in all a great moment Indian contemporary art as Gupta gets ready for a retrospective showing of his magnificent monumental steel vessels in Paris that opens on April 13 2018 and runs till August 28, 2018.last_img read more
