On September 19, 2016 we hold the Kick off ceremony for the Victory of the Heavenly Tribal Messiahship in Kampala Uganda under the guidance of Rev. Bakary Camara, with the goal of 12 couples bless 430 couples (each) during 120 days.We had 80 participants which included blessed families, blessed children and the youth. In the opening remarks Rev. Bakary spoke about how the seminar will be conducted and also gave a brief about Heavenly Tribal Messiah activities and the direction from True Mother, and about the start of the Heavenly Tribal Messiahship activities of 12 couples from Uganda who are going to give blessing to 430 couples in 120 days. He said that Heavenly Tribal Messiahship is the life line that connects us to True Parents. We had two lectures on Heavenly Tribal Messiahship in morning, led by Rev. Kililo, the sub-regional director of East Africa Speaking about :He spoke about Heavenly Tribal Messiahship activities in Asia especially the Phillipines, Cambodia, Nepal and India, explaining how how the people in Asia have been able to achieve the blessing of 430 couples.Successful Tribal Messiahship are working through one to one witnessing, or family party, approaching churches and educating the Pastors/Bishops.The Successful begin first by making the conditions, then create relationship, and then move to the level of education and harvesting. To start people do not need to go through 7 days and 21 days workshop before going to blessing. Even after 3 days of explaining the Principles of Creation, the Fall and the importance of blessing, we can bless the couples and there after we can focus on educating them.We need a systematic approach to Tribal Messiah ship, where by spiritual children are divided into 10 and each of the 10 takes care of the 43 couples.Environment in each country is different and therefor the witnessing strategies in each nation may differ.Keep record of our tribes as the Tribe increases through taking photographs, visiting them, knowing what this one has done, where they stay, whom they stay with etc and loving the spiritual children as our own children.Tribal Messiah takes responsibility of his children even when these children go astray. Now that True father is in spirit world, we need to work extra hard and fulfil our responsibility in achieving Tribal Messiahship in the nation. True Parents have completed and concluded their mission, our mission is to carry the cross and follow them on the path of Tribal MessiahshipRestoration of 7 nations by 2020 is very important for God and to fulfil this we need to go through the 8 stage formula from servant of servant all the way up to the Father showing how many couples are required for each level as the Nation is being restored.Participants divided in three groups for the discussion on:How to achieve Tribal Messiahship,How does Tribal Messiahship relate with Uganda today, when do we start implementing Tribal Messiahship in Uganda.Three groups consisting of about 20people each were created to discuss these questions. The first group was led by Rev. Edwin Plekhanov national leader to Burundi, the second group by Rev. Makuuza Francis national leader to Rwanda and the third group by Rev. Gimeyi Moses national leader to Uganda. After the discussion, a representative from each group shared what they had discussed:Group 1 was represented by Mr. Katungi Jackson, who spoke about reaching out to communities, schools, institutions as a way to achieve Tribal Messiahship. He also spoke about strategies like Social media, finding interests of people using these interests to connect to people to True Parents. He concluded by saying that we need to start now to do Tribal Messiahship.Group 2 was represented by Anna Nadunga, who spoke about using our providential organizations as a starting point in Tribal Messiahship, connecting with other organizations and continue on witnessing to politicians. Lady Anna also said that Tribal Messiahship has already begun and people are already doing their tribal messiahship.Group 3 was represented by Mr. Lugeba, who spoke about using Family church as the starting point in Tribal Messiahship. He also hinted on the financial challenge as the hindering block in the tribal messiahship activities. After reporting about the discussions, we had a testimony by Mr. Magoola David, who spoke about his mission in Busoga. There after we received guidance from our Regional President Rev. Camara.Guidance by the Regional President Rev. Bakary CamaraPurification of our mind and body is very important. We need to purify ourselves first before we witness to others. We really should avoide smoking and drinking. We should really try our best to connect to the heart of True Parents and Heavenly Parent through prayer and fasting constantly until we tap into the heart of God. He said that we have to really fulfill our responsibility. We should go out witnessing with a heart of saving the people, not with a heart of making members.True Parents have carried a heavy burden because of us. originally we are supposed to be blessed when we have our 3 spiritual children, who are willing to sacrifice their lives for us. But many members received blessing without fulfilling this condition and therefore True Parents were accused by Satan and they had to pay a huge indemnity. All issues arising from the True family are because of us who are failing to fulfill our responsibilities. We should stay faraway from our spouses unless we have a special mission from True Parents.Entering the kingdom of Heaven is depend onsuccess in our tribal messiahship activitoes. by FFWPU Uganda, Gimeyi Moses Joint Sunday ServiceDuring our Sunday service on September 20, Rev. Bakary Camara, Rev. Kililo Mwalagho, Rev. Gimeyi Moses, Rev. Makuuza Francis, and Rev. Edwin Plekhanov, to all the participants.Rev. Gimeyi Moses testified about his tribal messiahship activities and how he has managed witness to a brother who has attended 7days divine principle and also testified that through this one brother he has been able to witness to a group of people who are studying divine principle.Rev. Makuuza Francis testified that tribal messiahship activities in Rwanda. He said that he has been conducting tribal messiah mission together with his wife and that it has not been easy. However through conditions and grace from Cheong Pyeong , he was able to educate provincial leaders and together they could begin tribal messiah mission. He testified that Rwanda has been able to conduct 7 days DP lectures each month and also construct a center for conducting seminars.Rev. Plekhanov testified about his experience during the World Leaders Assembly. He said that he saw an image on the right side of Mother especially during the Cheon il Guk Scripture dedication. And he confessed that indeed that image was True Father. He said this was the first time to see father in such an experience in tears, he recalled when Mother asked a question and people answered yes. And then Mother said if you are really my children, you would have said Ye Omoni. And said that Mother really wants us to be like her real children.Rev. Kililo testified about his experience during the World Leaders assembly. He spoke about the different functions and recalled that great moment when Kim jung il of North Korea sent A banquette of Flowers for True Parents. He said that even at toughest times of great tension True Parents received love from an enemy. This reflects the work and love that True Parents have for North Korea. He also gave a brief summary on the Cheon il Guk Scripture dedication ceremony including the speech by Rev. Young Hwi Kim and a special lecture by Andrew Wilson. He spoke about the Sunhak peace prize as well as True Mother’s direct Channel to Heavenly Parent.Rev. Camara spoke about unity among members for helping each other to fulfill our responsibilities. He said we need to identify our subject partners, otherwise there is not direct path to God. He also said that we need to pray for our leaders and really invest ourselves in Tribal Messiahship Activities. He also spoke about his experience with the Kamugisha Family staying on the land that True Mother bought for Uganda. He said that he was inspired by this humble family which was raising goats and rabbits as a means to pay tuition for their children. And on that background he begun a fundraising campaign to construct a church and a center in Lusaaze. Rev. Bakary led fundraising by pledging a donation of $3000. This inspired the members to also pledge and offer. In total $13,050 was raised for the construction of the church. During the fundraising Rev. Camara sang a song about True Parents. They are behind me; they are in front of me. they are behind me they are around me so I cannot fear”. He taught us to sing this song and every one was inspired to give.Rev. Camara was happy with the Uganda family and promised to come back very soon.
Good Night Tee When Demetrious Johnson defeated John Dodson in an action-packed, hard-fought 25-minute bout in the main event of UFC on FOX 6 in January, the UFC’s flyweight division was on the map, once and for all.Gone was the silly idea 125-pounders weren’t compelling. The fight’s strong ratings disproved the notion fans don’t want to watch little guys. The haters were silenced.Or so it seemed. An unlikely source came out of the woodwork to criticize the champion’s style last weekend: A fellow flyweight, John Moraga.Speaking to reporters at UFC 160, the Arizona-based Moraga, who meets Johnson at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle on July 27, called the style employed by “Mighty Mouse” boring, and went on to explain why he feels that way:”I think he just bounces around, he runs around so much and he don’t fight,” said Moraga. “You know, he doesn’t put on exciting fights. He has a lot of technique and a lot of skill, but he doesn’t go in there and try to finish people, I don’t feel.”Asked by MMAFighting.com on Thursday to respond to Moraga’s comments, the champion brushed off his challenger’s critique.”He doesn’t pay my light bills, he doesn’t pay my mortgage,” Johnson said in a phone interview. “His opinion doesn’t matter.”There’s still nearly two months left until the Johnson-Moraga fight. But if the early back-and-forth between the two is a barometer, but the time they enter the cage, the UFC’s flyweight division might have its first true grudge match.Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate on TUF@TanerRuss2: So, it seems the trend of unjustified challengers continues. Tate got the shot against Rousey despite being obliterated…@RobRivera: Why Tate and not McMann? I like Tate but McMann dominated last fight.Miesha Tate as a last-minute replacement for Cat Zingano on TUF 18 is far from ideal, but I don’t see this one as the end of the world, either. The UFC and FOX had to make a snap decision, given the unfortunate timing of Zingano’s injury. There’s been plenty of predictable “money talks” backlash to the decision, but what about the fighters who have been training to get into the TUF house? Would it be fair to ask all those fighters and their families on hold even further just to wait on Zingano? Not really. There were too many moving parts to postpone shooting.Going down the list of options to replace Zingano: It’s too soon to go back to a Rousey-Liz Carmouche rematch; Rousey beat Sarah Kaufman in under a minute just last summer; and Julie Kedzie has a made-for-television personality, but her last fight was a loss to Tate. You can make a case for Sara McMann, but McMann herself has repeatedly stated she doesn’t want to be rushed into a title shot. And as good as McMann looked against Sheila Gaff at UFC 159, let’s not forget Gaff came wildly rushing straight at an Olympic wrestler at the outset of their fight, something Rousey’s not going to do.So that leaves us with Tate and her rivalry with Ronda, which certainly is convenient enough for the UFC and FOX’s purposes. All things considered, I’m tempted to call the reaction to this fight an example of making a mountain out of a molehill. But then, the UFC made this mountain. By making title bouts as egregious in their divisional schemes as Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen and Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz, you’re going to make yourself susceptible to criticism when something like this Rousey-Tate-Zingano situation comes along. I don’t think this fight’s all that bad given the circumstances, but I recognize that the UFC made their bed, so now they have to lie in it.@RuckerYeah: So is Bryan Caraway the biggest douche in MMA or what?Wow, harsh. But, given that your opinion seems to reflect that of so many people from fans to his fellow fighters, maybe Caraway should just run with it at this point. Tito Ortiz made millions of dollars because people wanted to see him get his ass kicked. I’m not sure Caraway understands how he comes across, but if he was to embraces the hate, he could become the money heel the lower weight classes have been lacking.Diaz means WAR @popyura: What’s your take on the rule set used by WAR MMA. Will it improve aesthetics?Personally, I just look forward to overhearing the referees in Nick Diaz’s new promotion tell the competitors “I want a good, clean fight, and none of that spinning s—. Now touch gloves” at the start of every fight.Seriously, though, I’ve never been a fan of banning elbows on the ground, which is the main difference between WAR rules and unified rules. The idea WAR puts forward on its website is that banning elbows will prevent stalling. I’m not convinced that how it goes down in practice. I admittedly don’t have numbers in front of me to quantify this, but I feel like when Strikeforce banned ground elbows in the pre-Zuffa days, there were a lot of fights with prolonged periods of relative inactivity on the ground, with the fighters noticeably unable to use one of the key tools in their toolbox. Something just seemed to be missing. That said, at least WAR isn’t using the idea that elbows on the ground turn people off because of the blood, which was the rationale promotions like the IFL attempted. As if there was a large potential fan base out there who was OK with everything else that went on in MMA, but decided ground elbows were where they drew the line. The other notable difference is WAR fights will be held in a ring, instead of cage. This one’s a matter of taste. I personally prefer watching fights in a cage, but it’s not like there haven’t been a ton of exciting MMA fights in a ring either. If the MMA Gods truly wanted to bless us, the show would feature a backstage camera which showed us the Diaz crew attempting to run the ins and outs of an MMA event. *That* I’d pay good money to see.Heavyweight questions@RandyRotta: If Frank Mir falls to Josh Barnett, do you believe it would be in his best interest to retire?@Idz1018: Mir is coming off a loss what sense does this fight make? why not against Big Country or Duffy?Actually Randy, I think the answer to your question is “yes.” I’ve taken some heat for ranking Mir No. 10 in the current SB Nation heavyweight rankings, and I stick by it. Sometimes you can simply see a fighter dropping off the career cliff right in front of your eyes. Mir has looked like a shot fighter over his last two fights, regardless of the quality of competition. These are rankings for 2013, not 2011. Saying I should rank Mir ahead of Roy Nelson because of what happened in 2011 is as ridiculous as saying because the Capitals beat the Bruins last year in the playoffs, they should be ranked ahead of the Bruins in the current NHL power rankings. Or, if you want to keep it in MMA terms, think back to all the people who screeched that Fedor Emelianenko should still be ranked No. 1 at the exact time it was obvious to most people with at least one functioning eye that Emelianenko was on a swift decline. But, this also ties into Idz’s question, because I think the Barnett fight does make sense. And not just because the buildup promises to be the most entertaining since Diaz vs. GSP. Barnett’s won nine of his past 10 fights, but he’s been feasting on the likes of Nandor Guelmino, Brett Rogers and Geronimo dos Santos along the way. In his only fight against a prime, elite opponent over the past several years, Barnett lost 50-45 to Daniel Cormier. Whether Mir proves me wrong or Barnett makes a statement, one of these guys comes out of the fight relevant and rejuvenated in the heavyweight division.@torontoufcfan: Overeem is scheduled to fight Travis Browne. Given his low testosterone issue does he have a chance or is he done?I’m not sure if Alistair Overeem is done, but his UFC on FS1 fight against Browne is close to do-or-die for his UFC future. Overeem, quite frankly, has been more trouble than he’s worth. He’s had to pull out of big fights, he keeps getting injured, he had the steroid suspension, and when he came back from the suspension and tested clean, well, instead of looking like a world-beater, he made Antonio Silva look like a title contender. If Overeem can’t get the job done against Browne, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him on the cut list.Addition and subtraction @kalamity113: If the ufc is so worried about shrinking their roster, why do they sign new people for replacements? example james krauseWell, UFC has said all along they’re going to continue to add fighters as they make cuts, particularly in the weight classes that most need it, like both men’s and women’s bantamweights. Krause is a lightweight, which is already a deep division. But he’s also a 26-year old with obvious upside: He’s a guy who’s won seven fights in a row and has 17 finishes among his 19 wins. If anything, I think Krause is the exception who proves the rule. If you want to get signed by the UFC in the “100 Cuts Era,” you better put together a resume like his.Want to be a part of the next Fightweets? Go to my Twitter page and leave me a question. One more match in the Heavyweight Grand Prix will determine a new king as “The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko (38-5, 1 NC) meets Light Heavyweight champion Ryan “Darth” Bader (26-5) in the tournament finale.Earlier in the evening, meanwhile, a pair of Bantamweight hopefuls will slug it out on Paramount Network. Recent promotional newcomer Ricky Bandejas (11-1) surprised the MMA world by finishing James Gallagher at Bellator 204. Gallagher was undefeated and viewed as “the next big thing” because of his friendship with Conor McGregor, but not even “Mystic Mac” couldn’t save him in Sioux Falls.Bandejas may have an even tougher test now against Juan “The Spaniard” Archuleta (21-1). He has won 16 consecutive fights dating back to 2015, an average of four per year in an era where anybody not named Cerrone is lucky to have two-to-three let alone win them all in 12 months.MMAmania.com recently spoke with Bandejas about once again taking on an opponent with a big reputation after the Gallagher victory raised his profile back in August.“It feels good man! It’s definitely an accomplishment. I really felt like we would get the win, but I did not know we would blow up like that.”That victory leads directly to another high-profile fight on the “Fedor vs. Bader” card and Bandejas welcomes the opportunity to prove himself against a fearsome foe.“I think he’s tough! You know he’s well rounded, I think he trains with some of best in the world, and I think it’s going to be a great fight, you know? I want to fight the best and prove that I’m a top contender at the 135 (level), and he’s the guy to beat.”It’s true that Archuleta rolls with some studs at The Treigning Lab, but Bandejas is with a good squad at Catone MMA himself. Either man could make a case to fight Darrion Caldwell next.“I don’t know. I heard that they’re doing a rematch with the Rizin champ (Kyoji Horiguchi) right away. But, like I tell everybody it’s not really my concern. You know the belt would be awesome to come across and conquer, but I just want to stay active. I want to get fights three or four times a year and that’s my main goal.”Whether or not “The Wolf” is at bay, there’s also coastal pride at play for each fighter.“Yes, absolutely! I’m from Jersey, he’s from California, he trains with a big team out there, I train from a big team over here, so it’s definitely a clash.”Given one man has more recorded fights on his record, though, the one disadvantage between the two men may be that there’s more material out there to study on Archuleta.“Yeah, we checked out his last two fights. You know he’s just a go-getter, he’s gritty. He’s just ready to come forward and fight and he has great cardio.”Besides the fact he’s facing a quality fighter with few blemishes, Bandejas is also enjoying the fact that Archuleta isn’t talking trash like his last opponent.“That was difficult to deal with because it’s a professional sport, and at the end of the day we’re all in it to get paid, so it’s hard to overlook a guy jumping around like that. I think personally it’s a lesson (for Gallagher), but overall in this sport it seems to be what people love. They love the loudmouth. Even if they hate it, it brings a lot of attention to it, and he knows that. He’s a big name in Bellator, he blew up, he’s got a lot of followers online, so he’s not silly. He’s gonna keep doing what he’s doing, keep drawing attention to himself, so you can’t blame the guy — he’s doing something right.”That does raise an interesting question, though: is it easier for a fighter like Ricky Bandejas to get motivated for a disrespectful opponent versus a “nice guy” like Juan Archuleta?“Somebody like Archuleta you know, every day I want get up (and) I want to train, because I know that he’s training hard (too). It’s definitely exciting because I know at 21-1 he’s definitely one of the best in the world. Gallagher was 7-0, but on paper he didn’t really beat anybody, so it didn’t do much for me mentally. Beating Archuleta would really just show me that I might be one of the best in all of the 135 (division).”The other intriguing question is who would be more ready for a title shot after Bellator 214. The winner walks away with only one loss, but Archuleta has already won four belts to date.“If they offer it (a title fight), I’m ready. I took Gallagher the first fight, this fight I’m taking Archuleta, next fight literally does not matter to me who it is. I’m in it to be one of the best and that’s it. Whoever they think is the best, sign him up and let’s fight.”In conclusion, what can we expect from Ricky Bandejas at Bellator 214 after he put on such a sensational performance in his Bellator debut last year?“Just the same overall game, you know? Archuleta doesn’t have any of like the same repetitive finishes or same repetitive knockouts, so I just know it’s going to be a tough fight and I’m just bringing what I always bring.”Ricky Bandejas brings four knockouts, three submissions and four decisions into the Bellator cage on January 26th. That’s a well balanced attack worthy of challenging “The Spaniard” in a quest to snap his 16 fight win streak and move one more rung up the Bantamweight ladder.Complete audio of our interview is embedded above, and complete coverage of “Fedor vs. Bader” resides here at MMA Mania all week long.To check out the latest Bellator MMA-related news and notes be sure to hit up our comprehensive news archive right here. A Case Against Steve Wynn: The Anatomy of a #MeToo Accusation Gone Wrong How dozens of newspapers published an improbable claim against casino magnate Steve Wynn. Sign up for Boston Daily. News. Commentary. Every day.* Get a compelling long read and must-have lifestyle tips in your inbox every Sunday morning — great with coffee! 8/27/2018, 4:30 p.m. 45250 By Michael Damiano· Print Photo via AP/Charles Krupa, FileOn February 27, the Boston Globe published an article under the explosive headline “Woman tells police she had a child with Steve Wynn after he raped her.” The Associated Press, America’s largest and most trusted news agency, had produced the piece. But in this particular case, less than a day’s worth of reporting had gone into vetting the accusation in the headline, which came from a single, partially redacted police report. Still, within hours, the story started making waves. Along with the Globe, at least 100 other publications, including the New York Times, republished the AP’s article. Now, however, Wynn’s accuser is speaking out and new information casts serious doubt on the validity of her claims against the casino mogul.By the time the AP story hit the newswires, Wynn had already been the subject of a deeply reported, damning account in the Wall Street Journal detailing his decades-long pattern of sexual harassment and assault. The native New Englander had already stepped down as the finance chairman of the Republican National Committee and as the CEO of Wynn Resorts, his casino company. But the new allegation reported by the AP had ripple effects in Massachusetts, where Wynn Resorts is building the now $2.5 billion Wynn Boston Harbor casino in Everett (since renamed Encore Boston Harbor). In fact, the day after the AP’s story ran, local politicians made strong remarks about Wynn. “It’s clear to me,” Attorney General Maura Healey said at the time, that “if what’s being alleged is true … the casino cannot bear Wynn’s name.” Massachusetts politicians had already strongly condemned Wynn, says longtime Massachusetts political analyst Jon Keller, “but clearly a sensational rape allegation on top of what had already occurred cemented the dynamic.”Since then, the AP article has become the subject of a defamation lawsuit filed by Wynn, alleging that the details of the accusation were so outlandish that the news agency should have known it was false. And in hindsight, based off of our recent reporting, proper vetting before publication likely would have produced grave doubts about the credibility of the allegation. Instead, the AP rushed to publish an explosive claim. And as a result, the news agency has provided fodder for critics of the #MeToo movement who argue that, in today’s climate, accusations of sexual misconduct are too readily believed. The AP article differed starkly from other prominent works of journalism that have propelled the #MeToo movement. Reports about Harvey Weinstein in the New York Times, about Charlie Rose in the Washington Post, and about Steve Wynn in the Wall Street Journal were the result of months-long investigations that rested on dozens of interviews, carefully compiled documents, and corroborating statements from third parties. Conversely, the rape allegation in the AP’s February 27 story relied almost entirely on one brief, partially redacted police report that never became the subject of an investigation—reporter Regina Garcia Cano didn’t even know the name of the woman who accused Wynn of rape. (The AP did, however, reach out to Wynn for comment. The story reports that Wynn’s spokesman “declined comment on the latest allegations.”)“A police report on its face, even without redactions, is a partial story and requires further reporting,” says Derek Kravitz, research editor at ProPublica and a co-author of the report that analyzed the infamous Rolling Stone magazine story that reported on a false accusation of rape. “This is reporting 101. This is an obligation of all reporters, whether investigative or daily beat, to fully explain and provide context for otherwise fairly damning pieces of information.”The AP did not leave itself much time to carry out its reporting. Two weeks before publishing her story, Garcia Cano read in the Las Vegas Review-Journal that two women had brought new accusations against Wynn to the Las Vegas police. After filing a public records request, Garcia Cano obtained the two new police reports on February 27. Later that same day, her article went live with the accusation that Wynn had repeatedly raped a woman in the 1970s and that the woman had become pregnant and given birth to a girl in a gas station bathroom. The AP, however, chose not to publish highly unusual details contained in the police report that might have undermined the accusation’s credibility. For instance, one section of the police report relayed the accuser’s account of the purported birth of Wynn’s child in surreal terms. According to the police report, the baby emerged inside a “water bag,” which the accuser opened with her teeth. Inside this “water bag,” the accuser found a purple “doll.” She breathed on the “doll” and “in a short time her cheeks were turning pink and she opened her eyes.”Had the AP known the accuser’s identity, it might have had even more reason to question the police report’s veracity. Just over five months earlier, the accuser, Halina Kuta, who claims to be a former Wynn Las Vegas employee, had filed a civil lawsuit against Wynn, in which she laid out a vivid conspiracy theory. In her lawsuit, she claimed that in 1993 Wynn plotted to have her murdered. She also claimed that she was the mother of Wynn’s daughter, Kevyn. Later, in an interview with me, Kuta claimed that she gave birth to Kevyn not long after the alleged rapes in 1973.According to Wynn’s defamation suit, however, Kevyn was actually born in 1967. The court recommended dismissal of Kuta’s lawsuit in March, describing her claim as “a clearly fanciful or delusional scenario.” Kuta’s lawsuit was a matter of public record at the time the AP published its February 27 report. “This is something that came up in the Rolling Stone case,” Kravitz tells me, “where the reporter didn’t go far enough beyond the initial complaint in order to fully vet what happened and to find additional sources of information.” The AP declined to comment and did not respond to detailed questions sent over email. Wynn’s lawyer in the defamation suit didn’t respond to a request for comment. If the AP had spoken to Kuta, the wire services would have uncovered additional reasons to doubt the claims she made in the police report. In an interview on August 9, Kuta recounted to me a life story full of improbabilities and demonstrably false claims. She said that Pablo Picasso painted her likeness in the late 1950s or early 1960s while visiting her hometown in Poland, resulting in the well-known masterwork Le Rêve. Not long after, she said, Steve Wynn stole Le Rêve from her parents’ home. In truth, Wynn, a prolific art collector, did own Le Rêve once, but he bought it from another collector in 2001 and, in a highly publicized transaction, sold it to hedge fund titan Steven Cohen for $155 million in 2013. Le Rêve was painted in 1932 and depicts Picasso’s mistress, Marie-Thérèse Walter. Kuta also told me that by the time she started working at Wynn Las Vegas in 2005, she had completely forgotten who Wynn was. When she happened to bump into him three years later, she said, all of her memories of Wynn suddenly came back to her—raising the possibility that she first imagined these events at that time.In April, Wynn attempted to set the record straight about Kuta’s rape claim, suing the AP and Kuta for alleged defamation. Four months later, a Nevada judge ruled in favor of the AP, stating that the original article, which accurately attributed information to an unverified Las Vegas police report, met the legal standard for “fair reporting.” A lawyer for Wynn said he would appeal. Wynn’s lawsuit against Kuta, who has requested DNA testing of Kevyn, remains open. The very next day, the AP published an article under the headline, “Wynn Accuser Makes Extraordinary Claims in Court Filings,” describing Kuta’s inconsistencies and improbable allegations. The story also raised questions about the information she initially gave to the police about Wynn. As of press time, the AP’s original article about Kuta’s accusation against Wynn remained on the websites of the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, and dozens of other publications. The accusation was also included in articles that still live on the websites of ABC News, Fox News, and numerous other outlets.
