PRINGLE: ‘APOLOGIES FROM CHURCH RING HOLLOW FOR VICTIMS’

first_imgIndependent TD Thomas Pringle has said the publication of the Raphoe Audit is “a stark reminder of the abuse for the many victims that are still suffering in our communities.”The Donegal South West deputy went on: “The view that the systems are now in place to ensure that the diocese reacts appropriately to future allegations will only prove true through the test of time.“This is another reminder of how the corporate body of the church put the needs of the church ahead of the victims of horrific abuse. Apologies will be hollow for the victims that have had their lives ruined and we all need to be confident that this type of cover up will never happen again’ continued Pringle. “The church has to make sure that the current code of practice is always followed and has to welcome scrutiny to ensure that it is. It is only then that confidence can be rebuilt.“Unfortunately it is too late for the victims and I would ask anyone that has been affected by this publication to contact the HSE helpline and talk to trained counsellors to help them through this difficult time.”© 2011 donegaldaily.com, all Rights ReservedThe copying, republication or redistribution of donegaldaily.com Content, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited by law.
