Championship: Leeds 0-2 Blackburn – Two goals in opening six minutes ruins Steve Evans’ Elland Road bow

first_img1 Blackburn scored twice in the opening six minutes Leeds were booed by their own fans after a terrible start as they lost to Blackburn in Steve Evans’ first home game as manager.Rovers were in front after only 17 seconds through Craig Conway’s opener before Jordan Rhodes doubled the lead five minutes later. The six minute double salvo was enough for the visitors who ended their run of three games without a win, during which they failed to score a goal.Evans meanwhile continues his poor start to life as Leeds manager with the Whites still yet to record a win at home this season. It took less than a minute for Leeds to fall behind as Conway found time and space in the box to lash the ball into the bottom corner after a poor header from Sol Bamba. If that hadn’t completely flattened the atmosphere at Elland Road then Rhodes’ sixth minute goal certainly did.Former Manchester United player Tom Lawrence waltzed his way through the shaky Leeds defence before Rhodes slotted away his eighth goal of the season as boos rang around the stadium.Blackburn, who hadn’t won away this season, were dominating the possession and chances, much to the visible displeasure of suspended chairman Massimo Cellino watching on from the stands. As the game began to turn flat Leeds finally gave their fans a moment to get them out of their seats as Tom Adeyemi got on the end of Luke Murphy’s cross, but his glancing header rebounded off the post.Leeds went off at half time to yet another crescendo of boos and came out after the break equally as poor as Lawrence and Rhodes combined to release Conway but the Scot couldn’t manage to get a shot away.Blackburn were down to ten men briefly during the second half, when Grant Hanley saw blood gushing from his forehead after a clash of heads with Murphy. There was barely a whiff of a comeback from Leeds, with a weak stab at the ball from Mirco Antenucci all the hosts could muster with the majority of the second half a non-event.last_img
