Freshman Cal Shimkus made his second career start. He was dominate on the bump. He got into a couple of jams during the course of the game due to walks, but battled out of it. I loved the way he competed in tough spots. He gave up 1 hit late in the game. West Elk put the ball in play several times and our defense made plays. Freshman Dalton Silhan made a great play in left, throwing out a kid at the plate. Cal had a solid game at the plate as well, as did fellow freshman Camren Clements and sophomore Dylan Reuter. Well played game by us, few mental mistakes, and few errors. Timely hitting was also key.Game 2 was a little bit of a different story. We didn’t start that game well. Senior Oggie Shimkus took the mound for this game. Early on we walked some kids and then our defense had a couple of errors that allowed some runs to score. The great thing about it is that the kids didn’t give up and quit. Oggie continued to compete on the bump and he threw well enough to get us a W. We battled back and tied the game. Ended up losing in the bottom of the 7th on a base hit by West Elk. Our kids competed hard in Game 2 and never quit. I think right now we are playing our best baseball with this young team. We have the league tournament starting monday, we are seeded 5th and will play a very good Central Burden team at Udall in the first round.Follow us on Twitter.
