Ybarra traded to Colorado Rockies organization; Ledesma qualifies for NJCAA indoor meet

first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Two Wellington High School graduates continue to make significant strides in their athletic careers.Tyler YbarraTyler Ybarra, a 2008 Wellington High School graduate, is now part of the Colorado Rockies.Jaedyn Ledesma, a 2014 graduate, has qualified for the NJCAA indoor track meet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.Jaedyn Ledesma•••••The Blue Jays and Rockies have agreed to a swap of southpaws. The Rockies will acquire minor league lefty Ybarra and Ben Nicholson-Smith according to Sportsnet.ca. In return Toronto will add recently-designated hurler Jayson Aquino.Ybarra, 25, reached the Double-A level last year, tossing 53 innings and compiling a 4.42 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9. The 2008 draftee has put up some impressive earned run totals and strikeout figures in the lower minors, though he also tallied around five free passes per nine.Ybarra, 24, last played for New Hampshire with a 4-4 record. In his five years, he has spent two seasons in the Rookie League, one season in Class A, one season in Class A+ before last season in double A ball. I am very thankful to the Toronto Blue Jays for the time I got to spend with them. I met a ton of guys there that will forever be family to me. Here’s to a new chapter. New team. Same dream.”•••••Meanwhile, Ledesma continues to make a name for herself in the indoor track world. She recently qualified for the NJCAA track meet in the 800 meters for the Cowley College indoor track team.The freshman qualified at the Masked Rider Open at Texas Tech University. She ran the race at 2:25.72 to qualify.It has been an impressive year for Ledesma who won the Kansas Jayhawk Eastern Division Championship in cross country in the fall.
